How To Hone In On Your Ideal Reader With ChatGPT
Creating content without knowing who you’re creating it for is like setting sail without a compass.
It’s important to identify and understand your target audience before you put pen to paper.
Skip this and you’ll drift aimlessly until you eventually get stranded.
So, what exactly do you need to know about your “ideal reader”?
Figuring out who they are is usually pretty straightforward.
For example, this newsletter has an audience of writers and creators who have a penchant for AI and new tech.
But to write effectively, that won’t be enough information.
You need more.
Goals, challenges, knowledge level, and preferred tone just to name a few.
A lot of this you can really only figure out by speaking to your audience.
But I created a ChatGPT prompt to give me a foundational understanding of what an audience wants.
This is often the first step toward creating content that resonates.
So, try out the prompt template below, filling out the blanks to make it more relevant to your audience.
You can either use it for a specific piece of writing (eg. a specific book or an article) or for your content as a whole (eg. your blog or your writing genre).
The Prompt Template 🤖:
"I’m a content creator. I’d like to get a deeper understanding of my audience so I can tailor my content to better serve their needs. Please help me generate an “audience persona” after taking the following information into account:
The Type Of Content I Make: [insert]
My Audience: [insert]
Please generate an audience persona for me using the following factors and format it in the form of a neat and concise table:
- Goals and aspirations
- Challenges and pain points
- Preferences and habits
- Influences
- Preferred communication style
Example 💻️ :
I wanted to create an audience persona for you wonderful people so I can use it to improve my content.
Here’s what ChatGPT came up with after using the prompt template above:
Zoom in if you have to.
Prompt đź“Ł :

Try it out.
Use it as a compass to guide your content.
Always have your audience persona in mind.
Enjoy.

Spotify Vs Boomy
Spotify has reportedly pulled thousands of AI-generated tracks produced by the company Boomy. (link)
While that might seem like a lot, it’s just 7% of the 14 million tracks created by the startup’s systems.
Insanity.
There were also concerns about the potential manipulation of streaming numbers and revenue by bots.
While I do believe that AI-assisted music will eventually become commonplace (just like autotune), Spotify’s perspective is pretty understandable.
Bot manipulation is essentially theft and shouldn’t be tolerated.
And that’s all for today!
See you tomorrow : )
