How To Use Bing Chat To Find The Perfect Quote

I love using quotes in my writing. It’s a great way to lend credibility and capture the essence of an idea.

You’re about to learn how to use Bing’s free AI chatbot to hunt down the perfect quote for any piece of writing.

It’s no secret that ChatGPT does sometimes generate fake quotes or attribute actual quotes to the wrong person.

In this very specific boxing ring, Bing Chat does tend to pummel ChatGPT.

Bing Chat (usually) does a better job of finding quotes that exist and attributing them to the right people. Or at least the people to whom the quotes are most commonly attributed (ha).

Here’s how you access it:

  1. Make sure you’ve got the newest version of Microsoft Edge open.

  2. Go to bing.com

  3. Click ā€œChatā€ in the top toolbar and enter their ChatGPT-style chatbot

Here’s the prompt I use to find exactly the right quote. Fill in the blanks, copy the text, and paste it into Bing Chat.

As always, feel free to pick and choose the parts of the prompt you feel would be most relevant to you.

ā€œI need your assistance in finding a suitable quote for my writing. The quote should [insert desired effect on the reader, e.g., illustrate a point, provide insight, support my argument]. Please use the following information to help you come up with 5 suggestions:

Topic or theme of my writing: [insert topic or theme]

Specific point or argument the quote should support or illustrate: [insert]

Author, speaker, or source preferences (if any): [e.g., famous people, historical figures, experts in the field]

Tone or style: (e.g., inspirational, humorous, serious, thought-provoking)

Target audience: [insert here]

Length of the quote (if it matters): [insert max word count]ā€

While Bing Chat does provide a source, do a quick Google search to make sure there aren’t any glaring issues with the attribution.

I used this Bing Chat prompt to come up with the quote you see at the top of this newsletter.

Here’s another example. I used the prompt to generate a great quote for an article I wrote about the slow demise of formal attire in everyday men’s style.

I need your assistance in finding a suitable quote for my writing. The quote should [illustrate a point]. Please use the following information to help you come up with the best suggestions:

Topic or theme of my writing: [an article talking about the demise of formal men’s attire]

Specific point or argument the quote should support or illustrate: [formal attire is becoming less common in everyday life - this is a shame]

Author, speaker, or source preferences: [no preference]

Tone or style: [Witty, pithy]

Target audience: [Men’s style enthusiasts]

Length of the quote: [max 15 words]

Bing Chat’s Response:

ā€A well-tied tie is the first serious step in life.ā€ – Oscar Wilde.

Phenomenal.

I stopped at that. But I could easily have asked for 5 more suggestions if I wanted to.

Try it out for yourself.

2 Great Tools For Your Workflow šŸ› ļø

We’re honestly pretty spoiled for choice when it comes to tools these days.

Here are two to check out:

1. Magic Slides: This beast of an AI tool takes the pain away from creating presentations. Transform a bunch of freeform text into a compelling slideshow with the click of a button. (link)

2. Hemingway: A tool that analyzes your writing to improve clarity and readability. I use it often. It highlights complex sentences, adverbs, passive voice, and more. (link)

And that’s all for today!

See you tomorrow - I’ll be showing you a quick ChatGPT trick you can use to make sure your words always resonate with readers.
