CLIPDROP IMAGE UPSCALER

(Not Sponsored)

Clipdrop Image Upscaler is a simple but mighty little app.

It sharpens up images.

More crisp, less pixelated.

It “denoises” images by raising the resolution with minimal loss of sharpness.

The tool is just one of Clipdrop’s nifty AI image editing apps.

The beauty of it?

It’s free if you’re happy with 2x upscaling.

The results you get with the 2x are still great.

For ultra-high resolution (up to 16x upscaling 🤯) you’ll need to pay for Clipdrop’s Pro plan.

Let me show you how to get started with their free plan.

(Spoiler - it’s mind-numbingly easy)

💨 Quickstart Guide

You’ll be met with their super user-friendly home screen.

2. Upload your image

Choose any image.

But note that the tool does work best with photographs and screenshots.

In other words, it doesn’t do quite as well with illustrations.

3. Choose how much you want to upscale

If you’re on the free plan, you’re restricted to 2x upscaling.

If you’re on the Pro plan, choose how much you want to upscale the image (up to 16x).

Remember, upscaling an image too much can cause it to become blurry or pixelated.

In other words, upscaling can sometimes have diminishing returns.

In addition, the processing time and file size can increase with heavily upscaled images.

Frustrating, I know.

It’s all about finding the right level of upscaling for your specific image.

Once you’ve uploaded your image and selected your upscale level (if applicable), click “Upscale”.

4. Review your upscaled image

I’ve used a random stock photo as an example.

I do like how it gives you a preview of the upscaled image (before and after).

You can review the work before choosing to download it.

I’ve simply used their free 2x upscaling feature in the example below.

Limitations

  • If your image is extremely low resolution or just has a high level of noise, the tool won’t usually make a meaningful difference. At the end of the day, it’s AI - not magic 😉.

  • It’s always worth considering how comfortable you are with privacy and security when uploading images to third-party tools like Clipdrop. Always read the Terms Of Use.

  • If you’re a pro designer or anyone else that may require more advanced editing features, this probably won’t be enough. The tool is a better option for content creators who just need to boost their images a notch.

Pricing 💰️

  • Free - Up to 2x upscaling

  • Pro ($9/month, $7/month if paid annually) - Up to 16x upscaling.

Note - when you purchase a Clipdrop Pro plan you also get access to the premium features of their other apps (check them out here).
